Principal Technical Officer

The main responsibilities associated with the job of Chief Technical Officer include the following:

  • the running of the School workshops, ensuring safety, ensuring that tools are secured, ordering materials, etc;
  • teaching classes of students to handle tools and to manage different materials;
  • performing practical demonstrations of building techniques for building construction staff;
  • constructing architectural models and making teaching aids as necessary;
  • assisting individual students and staff with their practical projects;
  • management and running of the School’s Building Materials Library
  • assembling of technical information for staff and students;
  • helping with the maintenance of the School’s fabric and executing minor building work;
  • repairing School equipment, particularly drawing boards and desks;
  • assisting with the mounting of the annual School Exhibition and any other exhibitions as necessary;
  • performing the duties of Fire Officer, Safety Officer, First Aid Officer;
  • supervision of all School Technical staff
  • liaising with the other Technical staff and workshop facilities in the Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment.
